The Kia Sportage was completely redesigned for the 2023 model year. The Sportage now has more cargo and passenger space, is loaded with next-generation technology, and launches the sixth generation of the Sportage. The Sportage also stands out with its extroverted styling, which features futuristic-looking headlights and a distinct grille design. The new updates give the Sportage more attractive features, giving it the extra edge in the compact SUV category.
The Ford Escape also received several updates for the 2023 model year, such as a refreshed exterior styling, an updated infotainment system, and a revamped trim lineup. The exterior styling refresh included a wider grille with the brand’s ovoid logo, and new wheel designs dress up the side view. The trim lineup features Active, ST-Line, and Platinum trims. All trims come standard with an 8.0-inch digital gauge cluster display, and a 12.3-inch unit is available on select trims.
The Kia Sportage can comfortably seat up to five passengers and comes standard with features like a manually adjustable front seat and cloth upholstery. Select trims also have the option to add available features like synthetic leather upholstery and heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable front seats. The spacious interior provides plenty of legroom for passengers and is equipped with rear seats that can slide and recline. The technology features also come standard with remote keyless entry, a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a six-speaker stereo, an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, and a front USB-C port. The Sportage has a maximum cargo space of 74.1 cubic feet, with the rear seats folded down and 39.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats.
Like the Sportage, the Escape can seat five passengers and also comes standard with cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats. The Escape standard technology includes an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, an 8-inch touch screen, remote keyless entry, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, two USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system. The Escape has less cargo space than the Sportage, with 37.5 cubic feet behind the rear row and 65.4 cubic feet with the rear row folded down.
The Sportage is powered by a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder with 178 lb-ft of torque.
The Escape base engine is a 180-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder with 199 lb-ft of torque, while the available engine is a 250-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 280 lb-ft of torque.
Both the Sportage and Escape come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is available. Both engines also get good fuel efficiency.
The Sportage and Escape both come with several safety and driver-assistance features that will give you peace of mind every time you get behind the wheel.
The Sportage has several standard features like rear parking sensors and rear seat reminders. The Escape does have rear parking sensors, but it’s only available on select trims, and a rear seat reminder is not an option.
The Sportage also has available features like reverse automatic emergency braking, highway driving assist, surround-view parking camera system, front parking sensors, and safe exit assist, which is not offered on the Ford Escape.
