If you’re hunting for a unique outing idea or something fun to do with your little ones while they’re out for the summer, plan a visit to The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. The museum is a great place to learn about the history and science of South Texas. You’ll find exhibits featuring information and imagery of some of Corpus Christi’s natural wildlife. You’ll also find displays that feature artifacts from the city’s past.

Special Exhibit: Bison

As of this writing the museum has a special exhibit Bison. The exhibit is a great opportunity to learn about these amazing animals. Bison were once abundant in North America, but their numbers were decimated by hunting and habitat loss. Today, there are only about 300,000 bison left in the world. The museum’s exhibit features a life-size bison, as well as information about bison biology, behavior, and history.

Coastal Ecology

The museum’s coastal ecology gallery is a great place to learn about the plants and animals that live in the Gulf of Mexico. The gallery features a variety of dioramas and exhibits, including a touch tank where visitors can feel seashells and other marine animals. The gallery also has a large aquarium with a variety of fish and other marine life.

Corpus Christi History

The museum’s Corpus Christi history gallery tells the story of the city from its founding to the present day. The gallery features exhibits on the city’s early settlers, its role in the Gulf of Mexico trade, and its military history. The gallery also has a replica of the Corpus Christi Lighthouse, which was built in 1852.

  • Kenedy Gallery: This gallery features exhibits on the life and work of John N. “Jack” Kenedy, a cattle rancher and businessman who was one of the most influential figures in South Texas history.
  • La Belle: This gallery features exhibits on the La Belle, a Spanish shipwreck that was discovered off the coast of Corpus Christi in 1999.
  • McGregor Gallery: This gallery features exhibits on the art and culture of South Texas.
  • Nuecestown: This gallery features exhibits on the early settlement of Corpus Christi.
  • Paleontology Hall: This hall features exhibits on the fossils of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals that have been found in South Texas.
  • Shipwreck!: This exhibit tells the story of the Corpus Christi Shipwreck, a Spanish galleon that was wrecked off the coast of Corpus Christi in 1630.
  • Xeriscape Garden: This garden features plants that are adapted to dry conditions.
