Tires are one of the most important parts of your vehicle because they have direct contact with the road at all times. They are the very thing that contribute to your ride, braking, and your overall safety. Maintaining your tires and making sure they are in good shape at all times is extremely important when it comes to your safety on the road. Accidents regarding tires can be fatal at times, and they can also leave you stranded on the side of the road when not maintained properly.

Signs of Wear On Tires

There are signs to look for that will tell you that your tires need a little tender love and care! Look for over inflated tires, under inflated tires, tread wear on the edge of the tire, erratic tread wear, and the raised portion of the tread or sidewall. All these things when ignored can result in a flat tire or blowout on the road. Keeping up with your tires is also the best way to save money and ensure they get the most life out of them before it is time to purchase new tires.

Tire Maintenance

In addition to checking the outside of your tires and the inflation of them, there are also some routine things you need to do when getting your vehicle serviced. Some of these things include tire rotations every 5,000 miles, as well as tire balancing. Be sure to get a wheel alignment ever so often as well. Unfortunately, alignment can be thrown off just by hitting a curb! This will also help you get the most out of your tank of gas.

Tread On Tires

Tires depend on the tread and its condition depth for traction to repel water when roads are wet. It is best to check the condition of the tire’s tread on a monthly basis. The most accurate tread depth measurements can be made and taken with a simple tread depth gauge, available at any parts store. Or, you can use the traditional quarter and penny tests!
